The Kubrick Stare is the solo project of Salford musician Sam Mills-Smith, established in 2021.

Drawing from shoegaze, dreampop, post-punk, new wave and electronic music, the sound combines distorted guitars, synths, drum machines and heavily processed vocals. Manchester’s guitar music meets the darker, more atmospheric side of alternative music.

Written, recorded and produced independently, the songs explore memory, identity, relationships and the passage of time. Sometimes loud and distorted, sometimes quiet and reflective, always made for headphones at 2am.

Atmospheric noise, basically.
